The 2024 International Motor Show (IAA) - an international event in the field of logistics, commercial vehicles and transportation, was held in Hannover, Germany from September 17 to 22. At this event, Iveco Group made a stunning appearance, bringing its brands IVECO and Fiat Powertrain Technologies to fully display its extensive multi-energy product line and grandly launch a number of new products and cutting-edge solutions.
Innovative model lineup
Shining global debut
At the auto show, IVECO showcased a large lineup of multi-energy vehicles, including hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO), natural gas, biomethane, electricity and hydrogen; and the two new pure electric vehicles, the S-eWay heavy-duty chassis and the eMoovy light-duty chassis, made their global debut.
The S-eWay chassis (including on-board software) was carefully designed and built by IVECO from scratch, with a range of up to 400 kilometers and fast charging capabilities, which can add 200 kilometers of range in less than 45 minutes. This new vehicle is equipped with Fiat Powertrain Technologies' electric drive axle, with a total battery capacity of up to 490 kWh, which is perfectly adapted to urban and suburban transportation needs. This new vehicle and its tractor version further expand the S-eWay series of heavy-duty electric trucks.
As a pure electric chassis in the mid-market 2.5 to 3.5 ton class, the eMoovy provides an ideal zero-emission solution for urban transport, such as door-to-door delivery. The eMoovy has a range of up to 320 kilometers and is one of the fastest charging speeds in its class. A 10-minute charge can increase the range by up to 100 kilometers. With a total energy storage capacity of up to 76 kWh, the eMoovy provides a car-like comfort experience, setting a new benchmark for in-car comfort. This model represents another masterpiece of the successful cooperation between the IVECO Group and Hyundai Motor Company, which is manufactured by Hyundai and localized and distributed by IVECO in the European market.
Zero-carbon future, a firm vision
Since its inception, IVECO Group has always adhered to a technology-neutral, multi-energy decarbonization strategy to help customers steadily move towards zero-emission transport goals. The Group is well aware of the unique needs and challenges of each customer and tailors solutions that integrate cutting-edge technology to provide a full range of power options.
At the IVECO stand, the public can see the S-Way prototype equipped with the XCURSOR 13-liter customized hydrogen internal combustion engine and a hybrid heavy-duty truck concept that combines an electric drive axle with a CURSOR 9-liter hydrogen (H2) engine range extender system. These power systems are developed by Fiat Powertrain Industrial, a subsidiary of IVECO Group that specializes in the design and production of low-impact powertrains.
Fiat Powertrain Industrial also has a dedicated exhibition area at the IAA, presenting its engines and other products through interactive exhibitions. The XCURSOR 13 is a multi-fuel, bare-metal hardware-identical engine that has been carefully optimized to power multiple fuels such as diesel, natural gas and hydrogen, thanks to a common core design. The CURSOR 9 H2 is a zero-carbon emission solution tailored for heavy-duty transport, and on display at the same stage is the new N67 Hythane engine prototype powered by a mixture of hydrogen and methane. In addition, the exhibition area also showcases the latest generation of electric drive axles designed by the FPT Industrial brand for light, medium and heavy-duty applications, as well as battery systems designed for light applications.
Value-added services and new market development
IVECO and FPT Industrial also showcased a range of services designed to enhance the customer experience, including new in-vehicle solutions; easy integration into customer and third-party applications through the infotainment system; technology that provides drivers with real-time information, and engines that are connected to the control room for remote monitoring. The Group also showcased a number of AI-based services, such as predictive diagnostics, driver health monitoring and smart route planning, which can significantly improve uptime, safety and productivity.
IVECO CAPITAL also presented its comprehensive financial services for the purchase, rental and leasing of commercial vehicles at the IAA, fully meeting the evolving needs of customers. In addition to financing, insurance and IVECO-specific services, IVECO CAPITAL also showcased its latest IVECO PAY, the travel service card issued in cooperation with Eurowag, and Premium Protect, a new comprehensive insurance solution designed for the German market.
In addition, the Green Advanced Mobility Ecosystem (GATE) also shined at the show, showcasing its innovative pay-per-use model designed for the long-term leasing of green commercial vehicles. GATE also announced the expansion of its business in Germany, the second market after Italy.
Olof Persson, CEO of IVECO Group, said: “IAA is a major event for the global transport industry and a great platform for us to showcase our innovative vehicles, engines and services. IVECO Group can truly offer a full range of solutions driven by all power options. No matter how the industry develops, we are fully prepared because the Group masters all the core technologies, from natural gas to hydrogen internal combustion engines, from pure electric to hydrogen fuel cell power. We have been a pioneer in alternative fuels for 25 years and will continue to lead the energy transition with this product strategy that perfectly fits our long-term investment plan and technology roadmap.”
