WeRide Launches Dongguan's First Unmanned Sanitation Commercial Project

On July 1, 2024, WeRide, a world-leading autonomous driving technology company, announced that it has joined hands with the Binhaiwan Branch of the Dongguan City Urban Management and Comprehensive Law Enforcement Bureau and Dongguan Binhaiwan Public Management Services Co., Ltd. to officially launch the municipal road intelligent sanitation and cleaning project in Binhaiwan New District, Dongguan. This is Dongguan’s first "autonomous driving + new energy" mechanized operation unmanned driving intelligent sanitation project, and also Dongguan’s first L4 level public road unmanned sanitation commercialization project. It is also the world’s first large-scale application of WeRide’s unmanned road sweeper S1 (hereinafter referred to as "WeRide road sweeper S1"), which is of milestone significance.
It is reported that the Dongguan Binhaiwan unmanned driving intelligent sanitation project covers 9 urban roads with complex road conditions. The unmanned sanitation fleet consisting of Weyuan S6 sanitation vehicles and Weyuan S1 road sweepers will carry out unmanned sanitation operations on key sections such as Binhai Bay Avenue (Donghai Road to Xinyi Section), Dongwan Avenue (Fuhai Road to Donghai Road Section), Zhenhai Road, Xinghai Road, and Zhonghai Road, covering a variety of scenes such as motor vehicle lanes, non-motor vehicle lanes, sidewalks, safety islands, bridge pavements, etc., with an operating area of more than 860,000 square meters.

As a characteristic cooperation platform of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Binhaiwan New Area is anchored in the direction of strategic emerging industries such as digital economy and new energy. In 2023, it was successfully approved as the pilot demonstration zone for road testing and demonstration application of intelligent connected vehicles in Dongguan City, and was approved to conduct road testing and demonstration application of intelligent connected vehicles. At present, more than 25 kilometers of smart roads have been built, paving the way for the rapid access and large-scale commercial application of autonomous driving technology.
The arrival of WeRide's smart sanitation fleet has injected strong momentum for Dongguan City to take the lead in running the "Binhaiwan Experience". WeRide's sanitation vehicle is China's first mass-produced unmanned sanitation vehicle, equipped with WeRide's self-developed autonomous driving software and hardware system, which can provide high-quality and efficient sanitation services such as cleaning, dust reduction, and flushing.

As the world's first L4-level unmanned sanitation equipment that can cover all scenarios on open roads, the WeRide road sweeper S1 has an operating area of over 120,000 square meters on a single charge. It can penetrate into parks, squares, auxiliary roads, sidewalks, parks, greenways and other scenarios, and can also achieve human-machine collaboration with traditional sanitation, truly realizing full-scenario, no-dead-angle sanitation cleaning.
