BEIQI FOTON Holds Key Account Delivery and Signing Ceremony in Ethiopia,
Advancing Green Cooperation in Africa
On June 22, BEIQI FOTON held an event themed “Together Win Future – BEIQI FOTON Ethiopian Key Account Delivery and Signing Ceremony” at its flagship store in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. During this event, BEIQI FOTON unveiled its international strategy, emphasizing the development of its business in Africa and Ethiopia. This move underscores BEIQI FOTON's commitment as a leading Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer to accelerate high-quality growth in Africa and deepen localized manufacturing.
During the event, BEIQI FOTON Key Account Delivery ceremony was held in Ethiopia. As a multinational corporation engaged in transportation, construction, and mining, the customer has procured over 400 FOTON vehicles since 2013. The group has consistently praised FOTON's high-quality products, reliable services, and parts support. At the ceremony, 100 AUMAN heavy-duty trucks, specifically designed for Africa's challenging road conditions with features such as fuel efficiency, durability, and strong load capacity, were delivered. Additionally, both parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for subsequent large-scale procurements, demonstrating their shared vision and confidence in a mutually beneficial partnership.
BEIQI FOTON Officially Unveils Africa Strategy, which includes three three-year action plans aimed at building comprehensive capabilities across the entire value chain, including products, networks, services, parts, finance, and talent. This strategy is designed to achieve breakthroughs in key sectors like heavy-duty trucks and pickup trucks, positioning BEIQI FOTON as the leading commercial vehicle brand in Africa. BEIQI FOTON is adopting an open and cooperative stance, working closely with local partners. Currently, BEIQI FOTON's network in Africa spans over 220 outlets, with 12 KD (knocked-down) factories, 43 parts warehouses, and 8 training centers in countries such as Ethiopia, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria. By strengthening its local presence and enhancing competitiveness in Africa, BEIQI FOTON is creating value for the local supply chain and providing job opportunities, thereby contributing to sustainable development in Africa.
Ethiopia, as Africa's second-most populous country and the largest economy in East Africa, is one of the fastest-growing economies globally and a crucial market for BEIQI FOTON's localization efforts in Africa. BEIQI FOTON has established a KD factory in Ethiopia to produce seven vehicle models, including medium and heavy trucks, light trucks, mini trucks, vans, and pickups, with an expected annual output of 2,500 units. The factory, set to commence operations in July, will not only enhance BEIQI FOTON's brand influence in Ethiopia but also create approximately 240 jobs annually. Designating Ethiopia as the core market in East Africa, BEIQI FOTON aims to boost sales of its entire product line through the KD factory, offering customers higher product competitiveness and lower total cost of ownership (TCO). In alignment with the Ethiopian government's electrification strategy, BEIQI FOTON plans to introduce electric light trucks, mini trucks, and vans, aspiring to become the leading brand of new energy commercial vehicles in Ethiopia.
Under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, promoting green, low-carbon transformation and sustainable development in Africa presents both challenges and opportunities. While the electric vehicle market in African countries is still in its infancy, it holds immense potential. BEIQI FOTON began developing new energy vehicle technologies in 2003, mastering core "three-electric" technologies, and advancing multiple development routes, including pure electric, hybrid, and hydrogen fuel cells. BEIQI FOTON's new energy products span the entire range of commercial vehicles, tailored to meet international technical requirements. Its pure electric light trucks, vans, and buses have passed the WVTA EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval, fully entering South American, Asia-Pacific, and European markets, including Germany, Italy, and Poland. From its roots in China to its global presence, BEIQI FOTON is committed to advancing the electrification of commercial vehicles in Africa, positioning the African market as a vital link in the global electrification chain.
BEIQI FOTON's strategic expansion in Africa highlights its commitment and investment in the African market and reflects Chinese enterprises' determination to deepen international cooperation and achieve win-win development under the Belt and Road Initiative. FOTON will continue to uphold the spirit of openness, cooperation, and mutual benefit, working closely with African nations to advance the commercial vehicle market and contribute to the internationalization of China's automotive industry, writing a new chapter in China-Africa economic and trade cooperation.
