October 31, 2023, China, On October 18th, BYD's first global smart truck factory officially began production with a 100% automation rate in its major production lines. The factory is planned to have an annual production capacity of 100,000 trucks, marking a new development phase for BYD Commercial Vehicles.
As a leading player in the electric vehicle industry with over 20 years of experience in new energy technology, BYD has a natural advantage in the emerging electric truck sector. BYD Commercial Vehicles, a significant division within the BYD Group, was established in 2008 and focuses on the research and development of new energy passenger cars, trucks, and specialized vehicles. It has built a complete industrial chain from core components to complete vehicles, consistently leading the global transformation of the commercial vehicle industry.
At the smart factory, BYD utilizes multiple information systems like MES, QMS, WMS, and LES for comprehensive digitized management and tracking of the production process. Through technologies like the Internet of Things and big data, they achieve real-time control of production data and complete equipment management.
Throughout the entire production process, BYD employs automated robots extensively. For instance, in the production of truck chassis, heavy truck longitudinal beam production uses a cantilever-style fully automated rolling line, while light truck longitudinal beams are produced with full automation from uncoiling, punching, cutting, stamping, forming, electrocoating, to warehousing.
In the future, BYD Commercial Vehicles plans to increase its investment in research and development, assemble a highly skilled R&D team, and create advanced intelligent product lines to meet the global demand for high-end and intelligent products. Their goal is to provide comprehensive coverage across various application scenarios for new energy commercial vehicles.
