October 30, 2023, China, During the third Belt and Road International Cooperation Forum held on October 17th, representatives from both Kazakhstan and China signed 30 business agreements totaling $16.54 billion. These agreements include a cooperation agreement between the Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund and China Power International Limited, as well as a preliminary investment agreement between the Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund and Sany Heavy Industry.
Kazakhstan, as the initiator of the Belt and Road initiative, has a strong foundation for cooperation with Sany Heavy Industry in wind power projects. In 2022, Sany Heavy Industry secured bids for two wind power projects in Kazakhstan, one of which involves its self-developed 6.25MW turbine model. Additionally, Sany Heavy Industry's smart manufacturing plant in Taraz, located in close proximity to East Kazakhstan, offers convenient transportation access, providing vital support for industrial investment in Kazakhstan.
On May 18, 2023, during the China-Central Asia Summit held in Kazakhstan and in the presence of President Tokayev, Sany Heavy Industry, in collaboration with the Kazakhstan Ministry of Energy, the Samruk-Kazyna Fund, and China Power International, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of a 1 GW wind power and energy storage project in Kazakhstan. This project represents the largest scale of investment in a new energy project by a Chinese company in Kazakhstan to date.
The signing of these trilateral cooperation agreements further solidifies the collaboration model for these projects, laying a strong foundation for their future development.
