July 25, 2023, Cummins has been honored with the "2023 Energy Management Insight Award" by the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM). The award recognizes Cummins' high-quality case study, sharing the process and benefits of establishing an energy management system in line with the global ISO 50001 standard.
As early as 2016, Cummins had 9 operating facilities certified with ISO 50001 and was awarded the CEM Excellence Award. The company had planned to have 40 facilities certified by ISO 50001 by 2020. However, Cummins has already surpassed this target with 45 facilities now ISO 50001 certified. This achievement led to the award of the higher-level "Insight Award," acknowledging the company's efforts in expanding ISO 50001 certification and reducing carbon dioxide emissions from 2018 to 2021.
The award is part of the CEM Energy Management Leadership Awards program. Cummins submitted a detailed case study report, presenting its experiences and results of using ISO 50001 in 45 facilities across 8 countries. The report is available on the CEM website, providing insights for other organizations seeking significant and sustainable energy and cost savings.
In the case study, Cummins highlighted its key practices in ISO 50001 energy management system and the achievements from 2018 to 2021, which include:
Total energy cost savings across 45 facilities: $183,775,216 USD
Total CO₂-e emissions reduction: 2,297,587 metric tons
Absolute energy reduction: 9%
Greenhouse gas emissions reduction: 18%
Currently, 11 Cummins facilities in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Wuxi, Liuzhou, and Xiangyang have achieved ISO 50001 certification.
