March 24, 2023, Hunan, China, On March 13, in Zhuzhou, Hunan, China's first electrified highway demonstration line jointly built by Sany Group, CRRC Zhuzhou Institute, and Tsinghua University was completed and opened to traffic, successfully filling the gap in China’s electrified highway field and opening up a new route for shipments for future heavy-duty highways.
This electrified highway is a two-way two-lane road with a width of 7 meters. 53 pillars and a box-type substation have been erected along the entire line to support its 1.8-kilometer contact grid. In terms of road conditions, the electrified highway covers a variety of road conditions such as ramps, uneven road surfaces, wading and immersion test areas, providing a wealth of simulation scenarios for testing vehicle performance.
This electrified highway adopts an overhead catenary method similar to rail transit, and is directly driven by the power grid above to realize the "charging while driving" of driving vehicles. According to reports, compared with pure electric heavy trucks using power batteries, the low temperature effect can be effectively avoided, and the energy utilization efficiency is increased by more than 6%.
The project is jointly developed by Sany Group, CRRC Zhuzhou Institute, and Tsinghua University. Among them, Sany is responsible for the vehicle development of the project and the design, development and manufacture of key systems, etc., and has completely independent intellectual property rights.
