SANY has teamed up with GPSC, LEADWAY and ROOTCLOUD to explore the development of battery swapping services and battery-as-a-service business for electric commercial vehicles including the monitoring and operational management software for the batteries and swapping stations. The project aims to address pain points on charging time of fleet operators and to accelerate pollution-free transport in response to the promotion of clean energy and Net Zero target by 2060.
Mrs. Rosaya Teinwan, Executive Vice President - Business Development, of Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited or GPSC, the innovative power flagship of PTT Group, revealed that the company has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SANY Heavy Industry Thailand (SANY), LEADWAY Heavy Machinery Company Limited (LEADWAY), and ROOTCLOUD Technology (Singapore) Company Limited (ROOTCLOUD). The objective of this MOU is to study the feasibility to develop battery swapping services and battery-as-a-service business for electric commercial vehicles (eCV) along with the development of monitoring and operational management software for the batteries and swapping stations. The aim of the project is to support the need of commercial fleet to go green and prepare for the growing requirement for low carbon emissions in the commercial transport sector.
The initial phase of the study will be focus on highway routes connecting the heavily trafficked logistic areas where investment on the swapping stations and batteries for services will follow upon successful study while the parties are also eyeing other potential routes and networks for expansion.
Mr. Paul Da, Managing Director of SANY said “We are willing to complement each other's strengths and cooperate deeply with GPSC to create a new, clean, environmentally friendly, and comfortable operating atmosphere for the whole transportation industry chain in Thailand. SANY will contribute our technology expertise in battery swapping and electric commercial vehicles to build a demonstration digital green terminal in Thailand together with GPSC”
Mr. Chakart Seanchan, Chief Executive Officer of LEADWAY asserted that LEADWAY, as the leader of heavy machineries solution provider in Thailand, can leverage our human resources and nationwide branches to strengthen the collaboration and propel the feasibility study”.
Mr. Ho Howe Tian, Managing Director of ROOTCLOUD said “We are fully committed to supporting GPSC’s goal on its net zero transition by combining cutting-edge IoT and Big-data technologies to provide valuable insights to real-time manage the battery swapping stations and services. This will accelerate the development and implementation of the technologies we need to address climate change.”
The battery swapping station is regarded as a key technological development to address the challenges on the charging time which is especially important for the commercial transportation sector. It is expected that the electric vehicle industry is growing rapidly; thus, it is necessary to accelerate the development of supporting infrastructure. Combination of swapping station and battery-powered commercial vehicles will contribute to the reduction of air pollution caused by the transportation sector and is believed to support the expansion of the s-curve industries that promote clean energy. Above all, this model is in line with the organization's commitment to be a key player in energy technology and innovation with the ultimate goal to achieve sustainable development, Carbon Neutrality in 2050, and Net Zero Emissions by 2060.
