www.chinaspv.com : Speaking of the potential of start/stop system market, President of Starter Motors and Generators Division of Bosch Sun Guozhong said: “in 2019, the sales volume of China’s automobile market will reach 30 million units, 30% of which will be equipped with start/stop system. At that time, one of three automobiles will be equipped with a start/stop system.
From 2012, MIIT and other related departments define the fuel economy targets at 2015 and 2020. The targets will push automobile manufacturers to use low fuel-consumption parts. The start/stop system is one of them, reducing emission 8% to 15%.
Currently, Valeo, Johnson Controls, Delphi and other international parts suppliers start to open this segment market. Bosch is no exception as the biggest automobile group. Bosch has invested 700 million RMB to establish a factory and R&D center in Changsha, Hunan province, to produce start/stop system and other low fuel-consumption parts. In addition to Changsha factory, Bosch also produces start/stop system in Changchun of Jilin province and Shandong province.
According to Mr. Sun, at present, Bosch has a dozen of customers in China, yet the promotion of start/stop system has just begun. “Promotion of start/stop system in China encounters three difficulties: the first is restriction of laws, the second is end users’ poor recognition of start/stop system, and the third is AGM battery’s reliance on importing with insufficient production.”
Apart from that, the increase in costs is also a key factor hindering the development of start/stop system. Application Project Director of Bosch Starter Motors and Generators Division Min Yuejin once said in public that the cost of start/stop system is determined by allocations of vehicles. A general family car will have a 2000 RMB increase in costs. But this is only an extra cost after installing start/stop system, excluding the system installation fee. General car consumers are not likely to accept such an increase.
At the same time, however, the promotion and popularization of start/stop system will be a future trend of automobile market. MOF once issued a policy that a mild hybrid power vehicle with intelligent start-stop system would get a fiscal subsidy of maximum 4,000 RMB. Automobile manufacturers seized this opportunity. For example, Changan CX30 sedan and brand new SAIC Roewe 550 both use start/stop systems. It is predictable that more and more manufacturers will enter this huge market in future.
